Cinderella Sanyu also is known as Cindy Sanyu is a Ugandan female dancehall artist, afro-pop singer and a songwriter. Cindy was one of the original Blue 3 members which consisted of Lilian Mbabazi and Jackie Chandiru.
Cindy has shared the stage with international artists such as Psquare, Wahu, Tiwa Savage, Shaggy, and Davido. Her solo album was Ayokya Ayokya in 2009 which had hits like Mbikoye, Nawewe and many more hits.
Of late Cindy is among the best female dancehall artists in East Africa with her latest hit song being Boom party which has topped charts in Uganda and Africa at large.
She also owns a band known as Band Cindy.
Early life and education
Cindy Sanyu birth name Cinderella Sanyu Muyonjo was born on 28th August 1985 in Kampala but she hails from Mbale district.
Cindy is a Munyoro/Itesot by tribe and she is a fifth born in the family of eight.
Her father being a military personnel Cindy grew up in Ntinda barracks and in those days she says they used to sniff tear gas in full swing and this is because of the military training that could take place in the barracks.
While growing up Sanyu was very tiny and never got a chance of joining school choirs but her mother got a better option and she took her to the church where she learnt how to sing.
Cinderella started her education journey in Mbale district. She attended Wenale primary school, she then joined Ngora High school for her senior one and two. Sanyu changed and joined Wenale view secondary school Mbale for her senior three and four later joining Mbale progressive high school for her A level.
Cindy didn’t extend her education journey after her secondary education but she just directly joined the music industry.
Cindy Sanyu says she started singing at the age of six years in her local church that was located in Ntinda. She also participated in a talent search that was organized by Capital radio Uganda’s best radio at the time. At this time she was 16 years old.
After this talent search, she started working closely with Steve Jean who made sure she participated in the Coca-Cola pop stars contest which led to the formation of a girl group called Blue 3 in 2003.
After the formation of the group Steve Jean became the manager and the group went on to become Africa’s biggest group and they made various tours in countries like Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Africa, Nigeria etc. Cindy found a music success at the Blue 3 were they won various awards and various nominations.
In 2005 this girl group was nominated in Kenya’s Kisima awards in the category of the best artist /group from Uganda and best music video from Uganda, video of the year in the 2005 pearl of Africa music awards and video of the year in 2007 in the pearl of music awards.
The Blue 3 was also nominated in Africa’s 2005 Kora awards as the best East African group.
In 2005 their single Frisky was nominated in the Tanzania music awards as the best East African video. The following year the group was again nominated in the Channel O music awards as the best group and performer.
The group was nominated in the MTV music awards but Cindy had left the group.
In 2008 Cindy Sanyu was suspended from the Blue 3 group because of discipline issues. She decided to start her solo musical career with a fresh start.
In that same year, Cindy released a first single titled Mbikooye which made her be nominated in 2009 PAM awards as must watch out talent.
Cindy Sanyu released her first solo album titled Mbikooye which had other singles like nawewe and outta my mind which also did well on the charts. Sanyu collaborated with P square and released a single titled you and me and this was a big tune in East Africa.
Cindy went ahead and released her next big hit titled Ayokya Ayokya which was produced by Washington and this was her first dancehall song which pushed her to the next level and made a name as the best female dancehall artist.
In 2010 Sanyu released another hit song titled only which was again produced by producer Washington. Cindy released a song Selecta in 2012 which got ample airplay on international channels in Africa.
2019 was the biggest year for Cindy because she released a biggest hit Boom party and she held a successful concert at Cricket Oval. The song topped charts and got various nominations because of this song.
Cindy also ventured in the sector of film acting and she first featured in a drama film known as Bella. Cindy played a lead role and her performance earned her a nomination at the Africa Movie Academy awards for the best young actor, Africa lead role in the film.
She was also nominated as the best actress at Uganda Film Festival awards in 2018. Cindy later worked on another movie called November tear that was released in 2019.

Cindy Sanyu was in a relationship with a white a guy Mario Brunette and they produced a daughter called Amani. They later divorced and fought for child custody.
She was also in a relationship with Ken Muyiisa who was the husband of Phina Masanyalaze but the relationship was not a success.
This year Cindy got engaged with a film producer and director Joel Okuyo Pyrnce.

After she departed from Blue 3 her fellow group members including Jackie Candiru and Lilian Mbabazi attacked her saying she was not disciplined.
A few months later her nudes leaked and Cindy said her former boss Steve Jean had leaked the nudes up to now Cindy has never reconciled with Steve Jean.
Cindy Sanyu was in a relationship with Ken Muyisa who was Fina Masanyalaze‘s husband. A beef developed between the two ladies but the relationship wasn’t a success on the side of Cindy.
She organized a Kukyala’ but Muyiisa didn’t show up at Cindy parents home and that was the last blow hence separating.
Recently Cindy has been beefing with Sheeba Kalungi and she requested for a battle but Sheeba’s management turned down the request. They both released songs attacking each other.
