UTL scandal: Minister Anite fires back at Rukutana’s statement following her directive to have Bemanya sacked.

Evelyn Anite, State Minister for Investment fired back to Deputy Attorney’s response towards her letter to have Bemanya sacked as the Administrator Uganda Telecom Company (UTL).

In Anite’s statement, she said that her letter to have the Attorney General instruct Court to sack Bemanya was seeking his views on the matter, but she wanted him to implement her directives.

Anite says that Mwesigwa Rukutana, the Deputy Attorney General is off the truck, adding that a coalition from the government that seek possession of the struggling UTL assets are working hard to frustrate her attempt to have Bemanya removed from office.

“Points to a common view that a cartel in sections of government is keen to have UTL liquidated and sell to themselves the strategic assets of the Company and people of Uganda,” Anite said.

“I received a completely offside reply (ADM 202/04) from the Deputy Attorney General in regard to my instruction. I will respond to the litany of fundamentally flawed innuendos/opinions he listed separately. It is indeed surprising that your Deputy interpreted my communication as a request for opinion!”

Anite also said that in a meeting held on Thursday 20th June 2019 at 9:00 am attended by her, Permanent Secretary chaired by the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Matia Kasaija all of them agreed that Bemanya Twebaze is a lawyer angled and established by the Attorney General’s office.

“The purpose of this letter is to implore you to have the petition to remove the Administrator of Uganda Telecom filed in Court without further delay.”
