E-commerce platform Jumia has announced a brand new and aggressive plan to increase its investment into the Ugandan market for 2020.
While 2019 might have been a tough year on the global stage, Jumia Uganda is on a path to attain profitability in the new year assures Jumia Uganda CEO Ron Kawamara.

Jumia will strengthen its logistics capabilities, therefore by ensuring the same delivery in Kampala for all ‘Jumia Express’ items.
Also, Jumia is expanding on its affordable shipping option themed “Jumia Pickup Stations”, where consumers can pick up their orders at their convenience.
Jumia collaborates with Bata shoe store and Total to have some of their service points in Kampala & upcountry locations like Masaka, Fort Portal, Lira, Gulu and Mbarara available as a pickup point for Jumia’s customers.
This expansion is aimed to provide consumers with more access points to pick their Jumia orders especially those in upcountry regions. The new pick up stations also allow customers to pay cash as they pick up. Previously upcountry orders were restricted.
Jumia will also be joining the fintech space with the launch of its online payment service ‘Jumia Pay’.
The service which is currently live in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Egypt and Ivory Coast will provide consumers with a fast, safe and easy way to make cashless payments on the Jumia platform with potential financial services such as lending in the future.
Increasing the number of vendors selling on the platform will also play a key part in the Jumia growth plan. The e-commerce platform plans to acquire at least 400 new vendors monthly which will eventually trickle down into an increase in product assortment.
