According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, part of the group arrested were 13 female juveniles and 22 male adults.

Police Saturday arrested 13 juveniles part of the group that was found partying in a city brothel.

Following an intelligence-led operation around Base zone, Katwe II parish, security operatives on Saturday arrested up to 35 people who were found in a brothel 

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, part of the group arrested were 13 female juveniles and 22 male adults.

The deputy Kampala police spokesperson also said that the group was found in a brothel and three pairs of female juveniles were found in compromising positions with male adults.

“The group was found in a brothel. Three pairs of female juveniles were found in compromising positions with male adults,” part of Owoyesigyire’s statement read.

“This brothel is allegedly operated by one Muhwezi Mustapha (who has also been arrested) a resident of the same place and is alleged to be trafficking unsuspecting female juveniles from upcountry to recruit them into these acts.”

Owoyesigire however, said that the suspects are currently being detained at Katwe and Nateete police stations as further investigations into the matter commence.

He said that they are being charged with cases among others defilement, trafficking in persons, procuring defilement, engaging in acts likely to culminate into the further spread of the coronavirus.

“They have been charged with various offences ranging from defilement, trafficking in persons, procuring defilement, doing acts likely to cause the spread of an infectious disease, operating a brothel among others,” Owoyesigyire added.

Meanwhile, in another related operation, he said that the police also arrested over 90 people at midnight at Frontpage hotel in Zaana who were found defying COVID-19 guidelines

“The were found flaunting Covid-19 guidlines . Police has preferred to investigate allegations of doing a negligent act likely to spread an infectious disease. They are currently detained at both Katwe and Natete police stations.”

This comes at a time when the coronavirus cases continue to surge in the country. The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Sunday confirmed 146 new cases from COVID-19 tests done on 24 October 2020.

This pushes the cumulative confirmed cases in Uganda to 11,443. Of these 7,351 individuals have since been discharged from various hospitals countrywide after they recovered from the virus.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the country has now hit 101 after the health ministry Sunday announced two new COVID-19 deaths reported in Kiryandongo District.
