The National Resistance Movement (NRM) General Secretary, Justice Kasule Lumumba has condemned the gruesome torture of the NRM supporter, Kasumba Bekar who was hit on the head and later nailed by two unknown attackers.

Kasule Lumumba who had paid a visit to Kasumba at Mulago Hospital on Friday said that such ill-fated politics that involves torture is not accepted in Uganda.

“This is not acceptable! Now if this is how politics is going to be with some people setting it this way. It’s very unfortunate,” Lumumba said.

However, Ms Kasule Lumumba says NRM Party will cover all the medical bills and family bills since he was the breadwinner to the family.

“The NRM Party is going to meet the bills, it’s going to take care of him and also take care of him after. This has come in a very bad way, but has brought him up as somebody who loves the NRM Party,” Lumumba said.

Kasule Lumumba said the victim is still in a critical condition and he needs prayers from everyone.

She, however, appealed to all political leaders to strongly condemn the attack of such kind on Ugandans.

“I call upon all political leaders to strongly condemn and discourage their supporters from political driven acts of violence because they are barbaric. Politics is supposed to unite us to better ourselves not be the reason we lose our lives or suffer injuries,” Lumumba appealed via her twitter handle.

Also, the NRM Party via its official twitter handle strongly condemned this gruesome act of violence on its followers and supporters and appealed to the police to hunt down the criminals for prosecution for them to act as a lesion to other persons wishing to commit such crimes on Ugandans.

“Police must act fast to apprehend the criminals behind this act, to send a strong & clear message that such assaults on political expression have no place in our free and democratic society,” NRM said on twitter.

“We call upon all political actors to remind their supporters of this fact, especially as we head into the political season.”

NRM says it can’t sit back while the fundamental rights and freedoms of Ugandans are violated by some evil characters in the country. Because in the very start, NRM Liberation Movement, restoration of free democratic orders was the first on its agenda.

Amidst tight security on Friday, Kasumba was taken away in an ambulance from Mulago Hospital to an undisclosed location for security purposes according to NRM Party.

On Thursday Police confirmed the Wednesday incident, that happened at Kalerwe flyover, where Kasumba was hit on the head and later nailed for being a sting supporter of NRM and President Museveni.

In the police statement, Kasumba aged 21 years was attacked on Wednesday at 10 pm while on his way back home from work.

According to police, the victim informed them that he left work at 10 pm, at JESCO HAM shopping centre going home but then decided to pass by his mother’s home to check on her.

But upon reaching flyover, there came two men who hit him on the head and later on nailed six-inch nails attached to the yellow cap he was wearing through his hands after he lost consciousness.

However, police say no arrests have so far been made because culprits are still on the run.

“An incident where a man identified as Kasumba Baker aged 21 years, a resident of Kivulu Kawempe Division Kampala who was putting on an NRM cap was intercepted by two unidentified men who hit him on the head and later nailed his hands. But we are yet to identify the suspects,” Fred Enanga said.
