Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has urged his lawyers to withdraw his petition challenging Museveni’s victory due to allegations of biased justice.

The National Unity Platform party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has urged his lawyers to withdraw his petition challenging Museveni’s victory due to allegations of biased justice.

While issuing out the declaration during a press conference at the NUP offices in Kamwokya, Kyagulanyi said that his team decided to withdraw the petition because most of the judges on the panel of nine hearing out his case had a conflict of interests.

Kyagulanyi in particular pinpointed the Supreme Court Chief Justice Owiny-Dollo who is leading the panel of nine. He said that the previous sittings that saw them being denied the chance of presenting more affidavits were enough to prove that the court was working on orders of the state.

“We have decided to remove our case from Owiny Dollo’s court. Just like Museveni sought to challenge the victory of Obote in 1980 and later withdrew the case and chose to go to the bush, we have also sought the same since the circumstances are not any different,” Kyagulanyi said.

Also, he noted that they will be forwarding their petition to the people’s court one that will accord them a chance of fair hearing. Kyagulanyi further rubbished claims that he is ready to stage riots towards NRM’s victory.

“We shall now take the matter to the court of public opinion. We are peaceful and we shall not use violence as Museveni did,” Kyagulanyi added refuting any claims of intended protests and riots termed as plan B.

Meanwhile, last week Kyagulanyi requested three judges to step aside from hearing his petition.

The NUP leader in particular cited Justice Dollo whom he said has always had a conflict of interest in addition to two others including Justice Mike Chibita and Justice Ezekiel Muhanguzi whom he said has a strong relationship with Gen Elly Tumwine the current security minister.

“We want to put the Supreme Court on notice that if this persists, we are not going to be part of that mockery, the next step is to take the matter to the public court,” Kyagulanyi revealed last week.

He added; “We understand that Chief Justice Owiny-Dollo has close political contact with President Kaguta Museveni having been the president’s defence lawyer in 2006. Mike Chibita, another judge on the panel, was President Museveni’s private secretary on legal affairs for seven years and Ezekiel Muhanguzi is a relative to Gen Elly Tumwine who is the security minister.”

However while responding to the complaints raised by the NUP presidential flag bearer, Justice Owiny-Dollo indicated that they will not allow anyone to intimidate them on how to do their work.

Justice Dollo said that he has a conviction that any judgements made by him are right and factual. He said that all judges take an oath to protect and guard the constitution without fear or favour.

“If anyone thinks he can intimidate, blackmail, induce the Chief Justice, then he is headed for a crash. I have a conviction that what I am doing is right,” the Chief Justice said.

“We are not opposed to fair criticism but criticise my conduct and decision. But speaking against me without a chance to respond is cowardly. You can choose to malign us a thousand times but if you have an issue and come before me, I would proceed in line with the law,” he added.
