Lumumba Mourns the Late Magufuli

Lumumba has joined the list of other prominent Ugandans to mourn the death of the late Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli. 

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party General Secretary, Justice Kasule Lumumba has joined the list of other prominent Ugandans to mourn the death of the late Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli.

Magufuli was announced dead on 17th of March, 2021 by now the country’s new and¬†first female president, Samia Suluhu Hassan¬†who was sworn in a few days after the deceased’s death.¬†

Magufulu, 61, succumbed to what was believed to be heart complications known as chronic atrial fibrillation characterised by an abnormal heartbeat, which he had suffered from for a decade, at a hospital in Dar es Salaam.

“It is with deep regret that I inform you that today on the 17th of March, 2021 at 6:00 pm we lost our brave leader, the President of the Republic of Tanzania, John Pombe Magufuli,” Samia Suluhu Hassan announced.

Following the devastating news, many people from different regions around East Africa have come out to hold public mourning for the fallen president with NRM’s Lumumba being the latest figure in Uganda.

In the company of some of her fellow senior workmates including the party’s National Treasurer, Hon Rose Namayanja Nsereko, Hon. Emmanuel Dombo, the Director for Information and Public Relations, Hon Mathias Kasamba the Director Mobilisation, Recruitment and Cadre development, and Hajat Medina Naham, the Director for Finance visited the Tanzanian High Commission in Kampala on Wednesday to pay their last respects.

In a statement, Lumumba hailed the deceased Tanzanian President for displaying statesmanship and for being a nationalistic character who was dedicated to the holistic liberation, emancipation and preservation of Africa.

Lumumba also, said the NRM party will avail and renew its continued relationship with other East African political parties including the Chama Cha Mapinduzi, a party in which Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan has assumed the office of the President of the Republic of Tanzania

“At this difficult time when the continent is mourning the passing of one of its ideologically well oriented leader, the National Resistance Movement is confident that given the smooth transition within the Chama Cha Mapinduzi in which Her Excellency¬†Samia Suluhu Hassan¬†has assumed the office of the President of the Republic of Tanzania, the correct trajectory of development will continue for the benefit of the people of Tanzania, the East African Community and the African continent,” Lumumba said.

She added: “I used this opportunity to avail and renew the National Resistance Movement – NRM Party’s assurance of continued relations with the¬†Chama Cha Mapinduzi Political Party.”
