Who is Patrick Mukasa? Flash Uganda Media looks at his biography, wife, TV career, Early life, Education and Background of Kazalaabwana.

Patrick Mukasa aka Kazalaabwana is a Ugandan senior journalist, News Anchor and Television personality at NTV Uganda. He is one of the most liked Luganda news anchors in Uganda

Mukasa was pet named Kazalaabwana by his colleagues after mentioning Embwa Kazalaabwana in his first news report while still working with Bukedde TV, which meant a dog that produced many puppies.

“When I had just joined Bukedde TV, I covered a story about a dog which had produced so many puppies. While reporting I said Embwa Kazaalabwana. From that time, my colleagues started calling me Kazaalabwana. The more I resisted the name, the more they used it. So, I started using it.”

Mukasa’s baritone sounds serious but sometimes he’s soft depending on the situation and who he is talking to. His voice is very natural; he just raises it when reading the news.

Mukasa realized that his voice was of value while at school, he used to emcee at functions by imitating Ssozi Kaddu Mukasa, a former news anchor on a local radio station. One day, my friend told me that I could start reading the news. I started listening to Kaddu and before I knew it, I had picked interest in news and journalism.

He feels good and proud when he hears people on the streets imitating his voice. He truly loves it.

Work and Experience

Patrick Mukasa is a News Anchor at NTV Uganda, a brand of Nation Media Group based in Nairobi Kenya and a presenter of NTV’s weekly news segment “Yogera Naffe”. He anchors the NTV Akawungezi a Luganda news bulletin.

Mukasa started his journalism career in 2010 as a news reporter at Bukedde Television. During this time Kazalabwana suggested an idea to spice up the news headline sound byte to capture the audience, this was later on accepted and he was finally promoted to Agataliiko Nfuufu news anchoring team.

Before joining Bukedde Television, Mukasa worked as a master of Ceremonies (MC) on different events inspired by his long time radio personality Kaddu Mukasa, whom they share a similar voice.

However, in September 2013, Patrick Mukasa joined NTV Uganda and in 2017, he resigned after working for four years. The reason for his resignation was that he was going to concentrate on his business but in real life, Mukasa was planning to travel to Sweden in search of greener pastures.

He sold off his car and motorcycle to raise funds to facilitate his travel. Sadly Mukasa’s money was conned and left with almost nothing, the people he had trusted with his money to process his documents were conmen.

This feigned him to return to NTV Uganda and apologize to the Station’s management to allow him to be part of the team again.

Mukasa rose to fame while still working with Bukedde TV, he used to anchor and voice their popular ‘Agataliiko Nfuufu’ news. His unique voice-prompted NTV to poach him from Bukedde in 2013.

He had since then been working at NTV as a reporter and news anchor of the 7 pm ‘NTV Akawungeezi’ and presenting the ‘Yogera Naffe’ programme NTV Akawungeezi news segment.

Family/Relationship

Patrick Mukasa aka Kazaalabwana is not married but has a child from an earlier relationship. One time he suffered a serious heartbreak.

“There is a girl I dated for about two years, but I threw her out because she was too commanding and moody. I could not stand her personality. Right now, I am not in a relationship.”

Among the qualities, Mukasa looks for in a woman are God-fearing, beauty, discipline and education, with a good past.

Mukasa reveals that he’s very busy, but when in love with someone, he always creates time for her. “I do not want to say that I am always busy because the girl I have a crush on may read the interview and turn down my proposal, thinking I will not be there for her. I am busy, but I have time for a girlfriend.”
