Pia Pounds wins ‘Outstanding song of the year’ for Tupaate

Charles Peter Mayiga, Prof Patrick Ogwang of Covidex, MC Kats, Pia Pounds and Levixone were some of the top winners at the Janzi Awards 2021. Check out the complete list below.

Tracy Kirabo, better known as Pia Pounds, won two awards at the 2021 Janzi Awards: ‘Outstanding song of the year’ and ‘Outstanding video’ for her hit song “Tupaate”.

From the decor to the exotic fashion styles of the guests, the inaugural Janzi Awards Ceremony on December 11 to 12, 2021, was unparalleled in its pomp and glamour.

Hosted by Karitas Karisimbi, comedian Mark Agaba, and Isaac Rucci, the Janzi Awards were officiated by Labour, Gender and Social Development Minister, Peace Mutuuzo. Several celebrities walked away with awards.

The Janzi award ceremony included live performances by comedians Mad Rat & Chico, Jowi Landa, Mudra, and Mr Eezzy.

Pia won the award for ‘Outstanding Song of the Year’, beating Mudra (Muyaayu), Mr Eezzy (Tumbiiza Sound) and Pallaso (Malamu).

In the category of ‘Outstanding video’, Pia Pounds beat fellow Ugandan heavyweights Pallaso (Naloonda Ne Mala) and Bebe Cool (Wire Wire).

Sam Lucas Lubyogo, also known by his stage name Levixone, was another big winner at the Janzi awards. He won two awards: Outstanding Faith-Based Musician and Humanitarian Award.

As the winner of the ‘Outstanding Faith Based Musician’ category, Levixone edged out Zoe Melodies (Greater Love) and Joseph Generation (Embraced).

The Chikibombe hitmaker won the Humanitarian Award category over Halima Namakula (Fistula) and Bebe Cool (Heart Foundation).

We couldn’t have had a memorable inaugural Janzi Awards without Azawi and Kenzo winning.

Azawi won in the ‘Outstanding Album of the Year’ category over Ykee Benda (Kirabo) and Eddy Kenzo (Made in Africa). Then also in the ‘Female Artiste’.

On the other hand, in the category of viewers’ choice award, Eddy Kenzo won, beating out Pallaso (Malamu) and Felista di Superstar (Bwotyo).

The artist is without a doubt the all-time fan favorite. In 2015, Eddy Kenzo was named ‘Viewer’s Choice Best New International Artist’ at the BET Awards, and in 2018, he was named Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice.

The Talent Africa Group was named Outstanding Promoter in Uganda by the Janzi Awards. The Group CEO, Aly Allibhai, accepted the award & through social media expressed his appreciation to all fans and especially to the Janzi Awards Academy for making this possible.

In the ‘Outstanding Performer’ category, Sheebah Karungi took the top prize, and Pallaso alias King of the East won the ‘Male Artist of the Year’ award. Pallaso beat Eddy Kenzo and Fik Fameica to take home the award.

Bobi Wine won the ‘Outstanding Entrepreneurial Artist’ award, beating out Sheebah Karungi (Holic Pads) and B2C (Kiyamba Ffena Wipes) in this category.
