A suspect reported to be behind the murder of Uganda Broadcasting Corporation journalist Robert Kagolo has been arrested by the Uganda police.

The Uganda police have arrested a suspect believed to be behind the killing of Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) journalist Robert Kagolo.

Kagolo who has been working under the national broadcaster’s Star FM radio was reportedly gunned down on Thursday evening by yet to be identified gunmen in Wakiso.

However, in a statement dated April 30, Luke Owoyesigyire the Deputy police spokesperson said the police has started deep investigations to determine clear facts of the matter.

“The territorial Police at Wakiso are investigating a Murder by shooting of one Robert Kagolo a journalist with Uganda Broadcasting co-operation that took place at Bugembejembe village in Wakiso , on 29.04.2021 at around 8pm,” he said.

Owoyesigyire meanwhile, noted that preliminary investigations indicated that Kagolo was shot at his late brother’s home in Kasengeje, Wakiso District.

The police spokesperson said that after the deceased had returned from his brother’s burial, he hurriedly entered the late’s home which was being guarded by LDU personnel after he suspected that some people were following him and he knocked on the gate with his motor vehicle while gaining entrance.

“It is alleged, that, while Robert Kagolo was returning from the village after the brothers burrial , he hurriedly entered the late’s home which was being guarded by LDU personelle after he suspected that some people were following him and he knocked the gate with his motor vehicle while gaining entrance.”

“It is from there that a dis agreement between him and two LDU personelle who were guarding the home started , unfortunately the disagreement led to a shooting of which the circumstances are being investigated,” Owoyesigire indicated.

Going further, he revealed that the deceased was rushed to St Joseph Hospital Waskiso where he succumbed to the injuries sustained. Owoyesigyire however, assured that the police managed to arrest two suspects behind the journalist’s death.

“The shooter has been identified as Mamuli Rashid. And upon getting the information, a joint team of Police and LDU command responded to the scene and managed to arrest Rahid and his colleague,” he added.

“Kagolo’s body is yet to be conveyed to city mortuary Mulago for Postmortem. Investigations into the matter are ongoing and you will be updated accordingly.”
