Jinja Road Police Station is investigating the death of police constable James Ochan who was found hanging on a tree.

Residents of Nakawa division woke up today with the saddening news of the death of a police constable known as James Ochan who was found hanging on a tree.

According to a press release by the Uganda Police Force and signed by ASP Luke Owoyesigire, the police is investigating the causes of death and circumstances under which James ended up hanging on a tree.

“Police at Jinja Road are investigating the death of police constable James Ochan attached to the Ministry of Water and Environment,” ASP Luke Owoyesigire said in a released statement.

On Tuesday morning at about 7 am, the body of James Ochan was found hanging at Banda primary school playground in Nakawa Division, Kampala city and was identified by a phone in his pocket trousers.

“The officer was found hanging on a tree today (Tuesday) at about 7am at Banda primary school playground in Nakawa Division, Kampala city,” the statement read.

“He was identified by a phone that was in the pocket of his trousers. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain what exactly happened to him,” the statement added.

The police say the reports they will get from the crime scene officers, pathologists and detectives who are talking to his friends will help them in guiding the investigations into the causes of death.

“The reports of the crime scene officers, pathologists and detectives that talking to his friends and friends will enable us understand the homicide,”

The police say the body has been taken to Kampala capital city mortuary for postmortem.

“Body has been conveyed to Kampala capital city authority mortuary at Mulago for postmortem. We would like to extend our condolences to his family. We also call for calm as we ascertain what exactly happened to him” the police said.
