Zaake Questioned for 7 Hours: On August 13th 2018, MP Mityana municipality was detained at Arua central police station in northern Uganda. This followed riots that aroused from Arua municipality bi- elections, after the fallen Ibrahim Abiriga who was later replaced by Kasiano Wadri who worn in the elections.
On Monday 3rd December 2018, Hon. Francis Zaake was interrogated for over seven hours by the police at Kibuli CID headquarters on two counts of alleged treason and escape from lawful Custody at Arua Central Police Station after the Arua bi- elections campaigns.
Zaake walked from the car that dropped him at Kibuli based criminal investigation department and he was aided by clutches towards the CID offices where he was interrogated.
While addressing journalists at Kibuli, Zaake states that the session he had with the police has given him a chance to collect more proof, pinning the government for torturing him while under police custody in Arua central police station.
“Of course my coming here was just to abide by the directives because I obey the laws”, said Zaake.
In addition he points out that the cases charged against him are ‘bogus’ and meant to intimidate him as well as waste his valuable time, he noted.
While under Special Forces command torture in Arua, they pulled his genitals using scissors, and other sharp objects before he begun to be senseless, Zaake claimed.
To Zaake, this police investigation got him a chance to collect valuable information from the police on why they tortured him and dumped him at Lubaga hospital entrance.
And every word the police utters is additional information to what we already have as evidence from our own investigations pinning them against torture.
Like other opposition members, activists and Robert Kyagulanyi MP Kyadondo east who were allegedly accused of treason, Zaake is expected to join them.
More to that he stated, the police got him from a hotel room, beat him up and later dumped him at Lubaga hospital.
Mean while as far as Zaake’s health condition is concerned he says; “I can now stand by myself although for shorter period of time”, adding that his neck and back pain has improved.
Finally after the session with police Zaake was instructed to come back again on 5th of December 2018 at Kibuli CID offices. We shall keep u posted on all the upcoming developments on this story.
