Andrew Mukasa Bajjo denied bail

Bobi Wine’s promoter Andrew Mukasa Bajjo, proprietor Bajjo Events accused of inciting violence and offensive communication against the president has been remanded to Luzira prison again until next week July 5 2019.

Andrew Mukasa Bajjo aged 29, was denied bail in the Tuesday hearing at Buganda Road Court on grounds that his sureties were not substantial.

Erias Lukwago, Bajjo’s lawyer presented three (3) sureties at Buganda Road Court to secure Bajjo’s release but the State Attorney Charlotte Kyohairwe requested Court to rule out the sureties stating that they possessed uncoordinated documents.

Kyohairwe contends that the sureties’ information appearing on their National Identity Cards totally differed from their LC 1 letters.

“Your Worship, I invite the count to find the sureties presented by the accused in Court not substantial because of the variances in their places of abode,” State Attorney Kyohairwe said.

Sureties included Abby Musinguzi common name Abtex of Abtex promotions, Aloysius Matovu and Moses Bigirwa human rights activists.

Bajjo was charged with two counts last week which include; offensive communication against president Museveni and inciting violence.

Andrew Mukasa Bajjo pleaded not guilty on the charge of inciting violence and guilty on offensive communication against president Museveni.

But his lawyer Erias Lukwago quickly intercepted him and told the court that his client did not understand the charge, he needs a Luganda interpreter to clarify the charge to him.

But the Magistrate failed to find an interpreter at that time and adjourned the hearing to Tuesday. However, during the Tuesday hearing, Bajjo pleaded not guilty on the second count of offensive communication, applied for bail but it was rejected.

If at all Bajjo’s plea of guilty was taken by the court, he would be reliable to imprisonment for not more than seven (7) years.

The swift turn of the event followed a video Bajjo recorded using his mobile phone mobilising Ugandans to overturn the regime government before the next elections arrive and posted it on social media in June 2019.

Still in June Andrew Mukasa Bajjo is said to have incited violence in Masaka, Ibanda, Kampala and Mbarara.

Bajjo was arrested at Centenary Park, Mix Lounge last week in a press Conference he held with his colleague Abitex.

The press meeting was about a marathon aimed at raising funds for the Kyadondo East Legislator stage name Bobi Wine, the people power leader as compensation for his blocked music shows.
