Speaking at a pre-match press conference at the Cairo International Stadium, Uganda Cranes captain and Denis Masinde Onyango said that the team is focused on getting maximum points for their next group game against Zimbabwe on Wednesday 26th June.
Onyango, who is also the Cranes’ first-team goalkeeper added that they need to head into their final group game against Egypt when they have already secured qualification.
“We are focused and concentrated for the Zimbabwe game on Wednesday. The win we registered against DR Congo now means for nothing. We need maximum points against Zimbabwe so that we head to the final game with Egypt when we are relaxed and already qualified,” he said.
“We need the three points against Zimbabwe though they are a good team we are ready to give in our best to collect the maximum points so as to book a place in the round of 16,” he added.
Onyango as well admitted having played with and against most of Zimbabwe national team players and that he will share with the teammates on how to tame some of them.
“Personally, I will admit that I know most of the Zimbabwe players. I have played with some of them in the same clubs and majority play in the PSL. We are set and determined to face Zimbabwe. There is no need to underrate them because they have quality players,” Onyango said.
”I know 90 % of the Zimbabwe players because they feature in the like me. Therefore I will share with the team on how to tame them,” added Onyango.
Meanwhile, the Uganda Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre has also called on his charges to forget about their first game and only focus on the next game against Zimbabwe tomorrow.
“We have to forget about the first game and focus on the next game against Zimbabwe because of it important in our plan to go past the group stages,” Desabre said at the pre-match press conference at the Cairo International Stadium on June 25th.
‘We won the first game but we were not perfect therefore we need to correct our mistakes ahead of the Zimbabwe game,” claimed Desabre.
