The evening of Sunday 16th September was rather sad and very somber when Makerere University Nsibirwa boys’ hall of residence was struck by calamity after one of their residents committed suicide and was discovered in the evening.

Christmas holiday is celebrated worldwide and seen as the only time when people of different cultures celebrate life and achievements together. Less or no grief is expected on such special days.

As many were busy enjoying and celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, the family of Makerere University and sportsman Simon Ashaba was mourning the untimely death of their beloved son who was kidnapped, poisoned, and dumped in Butabika, a Kampala Suburb.

Ashaba was a third year student residing at Nkrumah Hall persuing a bachelor’s degree at School of social sciences. According to reports, Ashaba was kidnapped by unknown people who at first asked the family to give them money but later decided to only take his Iphone saying that it was enough as ransom.

He was dumped in Butabika where the family picked him and rushed him to Kibuli Moslem Hospital where they discovered that he was poisoned to death.

He was declared dead on 25th December in the morning and the deceased will be buried today 27th December in Western Uganda, Rukungiri district. While talking about the deceased, Samson Rugiongeza a brother to Ashaba also a student at Makerere University said that was a hardworking and resilient person whom he regrets that he is going to live the rest of his life without him.
