Maria Nagirinya Murder: Suspects say they were paid 1M shillings to kidnap and kill NGO staff

Maria Nagirinya Murder: Police and other security agencies have arrested three prime suspects in the kidnap and murder of a Social Worker.

Maria Nagirinya and her driver Ronald Kitayimbwa, whose bodies were found dumped in a swamp in Nakitutuli village in Mukono District which adds up to six in total with the earlier arrests.

Police and Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence spent the whole of yesterday with the three arrested suspects of Nagirinya and Kitayimbwa’s kidnap and subsequent murder visiting various places around Kampala where the suspects are thought to have been, amidst heavy deployment of security personnel’s.

Security Operatives moved in a convoy of more than five vehicles with Police Patrol Trucks inclusive, checking certain lodges in Kigaga Zone in Natete a Kampala suburb.

In these lodges, police arrested some people found in the lodges including a woman.

Upon interrogation, the suspects admitted committing the murder saying they were paid 1m shillings to execute the plan.

However, they said they were seven in number and each got a share of 130,000 shillings.

From Natete, the security convoy headed to Bulenga Zone B in Wakiso District and arrived in a fenced house where it’s believed that the suspected killers sit to arrange their moves.

Among the suspects arrested was the man seen in the CCTV Camera driving the late Nagirinya’s car and a sim card of late Kitayimbwa recovered in their hideouts during the search.

“Remember we had two boda bodas, and one suspect whom one of the boda boda indicated, they had transported there. Now based on further intelligence, we advanced surveillance mechanisms we were able to arrest the three who are very prime suspects in this and they have given us preliminary information, that’s already helpful! And we also have to inform you that the sim card of Ronald Kitayimbwa, was also recovered with the suspects during a further search of the premises where they are,” Fred Enanga Police Spokesperson said.

Later on, security recovered clothes of one of the suspects dropped after it was stained with blood at Namanve where they had gone for further investigation.

Nagirinya was ahead Community Integrated Development Initiatives (CIDI) Lubaga and Nakawa water programs based in Muyenga Kampala, who was abducted last month at her gate while waiting for her sister to open the gate for her at her residence in Lungujja, Wakiso District and later murdered.
