President Yoweri Museveni on Monday rushed to his social media platform to sympathize with the Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago for snatching his former deputy, Sarah Kanyike.

Earlier in June, the President cropped up from nowhere and nominated Sarah Kanyike to serve in the position of Director Gender, Community Services at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

Her appointment did not go well with the Lord Mayor who urged Kanyike to reject the appointment from the President insisting that the position she held as his deputy was a better one. Lukwago also issued her a three- day ultimatum to decide on the President’s appointment.

Days later, the latter handed in a letter confirming her resignation from the duty of serving as the Lord Mayor’s immediate assistant effective from June 30th.

Discomforted Lukwago in reiteration, appointed Doreen Nyanjura who is now serving in the position.

However, in the wake of events. President Museveni has joked that the Lord Mayor nearly collapsed upon hearing the news that he had appointed his deputy to a new role.

Museveni who posted a statement on his prominent social media handle raised sympathies to the Lord Mayor. He, however, congratulated Sarah Kanyike for being appointed as the minister for the elderly and people with disabilities.

‘’I congratulate Ms Sarah Kanyike upon her appointment as State Minister for Disabilities and Elderly. I want to express sympathy to my son Lukwago (Erias) who almost got a heart attack because I captured a big fish from my old party (DP),’’ the President wrote.

Museveni added explaining that Kanyike’s appointment was aimed at promoting unity. He referred to Kanyike as an individual who always puts the problems of the people first ahead of any party differences something that many Ugandan politicians need to adhere to.

“I would like to advise all the decent politicians who have a burden to help their people to rally with the NRM. I am happy to welcome our people who have been insisting on separation rather than unity. Uganda needs unity more than breakaway factions,” Museveni said.

He added; “This is a strategy to bring all the serious elements together, around a program of unity for Uganda and Africa so that we can solve our problems, I welcome Sarah in this endeavour of unity to solve our problems.”
