The incumbent President Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Museveni has promised to apply bush war tactics if the coming 2021 elections are rigged.
Museveni made the remarks while delivering his New Year message to the nation. He said that they will not allow any Ugandan in the name of capturing power to distort the country’s democracy.
“All of you involved, I know and I will act. Secondly, I am the head of the bush war. We can’t allow the democracy of the people to be distorted by crooks. When you bring cheating into elections, it means you are nullifying the will of the people,” Museveni said.
“It is safer for you to behave well in the remaining days to elections. Don’t think you are clever. I want to warn people involved in this. Do not miscalculate. I have been elected by Ugandans, I will not allow the affairs of Ugandans to be messed by criminals.”
Museveni also, said that many NRM supporters have also in recent weeks been intimidated by those in the opposition but they are ready to deal with anyone caught burning or beating up a colleague over a political party difference.
“People are crying that they are intimidated by the opposition. I would like to advise the opposition that it will not work. Nobody will intimidate Ugandans. We are not going to accept it,” Museveni added.
Meanwhile, the President noted that 2020 has been a tight year coupled with several challenges including floods, floating islands, locusts and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

On the pandemic, Museveni announced that in the next few weeks he will be meeting the COVID-19 taskforce to discuss issues among others on when they hope to have vaccines brought into the country.
“In the next few days, I will be meeting the task force on the issue of vaccines. This has been a year of challenges but Uganda has managed.”
This comes at a time when hospitals countrywide are already overwhelmed by the increasing coronavirus cases. The health ministry Thursday announced 539 new cases from COVID-19 tests done on 30 December 2020.
This pushed the cumulative confirmed cases in Uganda to 35,216. Of these, 11,733 individuals have since been discharged from various referral hospitals countrywide after they recovered from the virus while 251 have succumbed to it.
