Two legislators, including the Kawempe North MP, Muhammad Ssegirinya, and the Makindye West MP, Allan Ssewanyana, have been accused of orchestrating the ongoing killings in Lwengo and Masaka.
The Uganda police have said two legislators including the Kawempe North MP, Muhammad Ssegirinya and the Makindye West MP, Allan Ssewanyana are the two masterminds behind ongoing killings in Lwengo and Masaka.
Last week, the two National Unity Platform party members were summoned to appear in court and respond to claims that they were behind the vicious murders.
In two separate letters dated September 3, 2021, the police requested that Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana should appear at Masaka Police Station on Monday to record statements in response to the above allegations.
“This serves as summons for you to appear at Masaka Police Station on Monday 6, September 2021 at 1000 hours before D/SSP Moses Taremwa for a statement in respect to the said investigations,” the letters read in part.
In the letter, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations noted that they are carrying out proper research to establish facts behind some murders that took place in Greater Masaka during July and August 2021 and it is through this basis that Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana were summoned.
While responding to the same, Fred Enanga the police spokesperson defended the summon saying that the two legislators are the true masterminds behind the murders.
Enanga said some of the suspects they held revealed to them that these MPs on top of recruiting them also promised them lots of wealth which induced them into committing these atrocities.
“Two Hon. Members of Parliament, namely; Hon. Allan Sewanyana and Hon. Muhammad Segirinya are expected to appear, at Masaka District Police Headquarters for statement recording, as the masterminds behind the vicious murders.”
He added that the suspects also disclosed to them the series through which they were admitted and also taken through meetings on how they were going to carry out these said duties.
“The suspects in their admissions clearly indicate how they were recruited, taken through the intentionally designed plans in a meeting at Ndeeba, and create animosity against elderly victims, who do not share their views,” Enanga added.
“The suspects were promised wealth as a motivating factor. And that it is under the command of the two politicians that the victims were hacked and beaten to death. It is further alleged that the politicians facilitated the movement of the assailants and induced them to commit the atrocities against their victims.”
