At the 3rd African Youth Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Continental Youth Symposium held on Tuesday at Speke Resort Munyonyo, Museveni launched the implementation of the one million Next Level Initiative.
President Yoweri Museveni has argued to the youth to desist from being used by opportunists who are only ambitious to hit their goals.
Museveni made the remarks as he launched the implementation of the one million Next Level Initiative at the 3rd African Youth Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Continental Youth Symposium which took place at Speke Resort Munyonyo on Tuesday.
He implored youths to advocate for and contribute toward political unity and coordination among the African countries.
Museveni said many locals have remained stuck in extreme poverty with thoughts that, being youths, the government should do everything for them including making them developmental.
“Being a Youth is not only a biological qualification. One cannot simply go around hiding behind being a youth because of age without an ideological position. Some youths are confused. For example, confused youthful Pharisees killed Jesus, a fellow youth,” Museveni said.
“Hence one can be a Youth but with very wrong ideas- Amin was a youth when we were fighting him for his terrible ideas. Therefore, you must identify what your mission is as an African Youth. How do u get prosperity for the African people, and yourself?”
In addition, he outlined that one cannot become prosperous through begging. He implored youths to be the vanguard of producing goods and services.
“They should also be the vanguard in protecting Africa against all threats and guarding our countries against the politics of sectarianism stoked by external forces. The Youth are here for a longer time than our generation, they should know that Africa is the cradle of man, pioneer of civilisation and saviour of all modern religions; Africa is ONE, its people are similar and linked, and it is through UNITY that we shall overcome anything.”
“All these years, we have pointed out to the youth of Uganda that if they want to deal with the missions of prosperity and strategic security, they must have a minimum of the following; Patriotism, Pan-Africanism,” Museveni added.
He further urged them to unite to be in a position to tackle problems easily. Museveni challenged them to become modern to build a middle and working-class democracy.
“Do not allow opportunists to divide your countries along sectarianism lines. When Jesus was killed, he was a youth and he was killed by other youths. Do not hide about being youth, what is your ideological position? Part of the problem is the way some people think.”
“Because of ideological bankruptcy, all the parasites emphasize differences. When we unite, there is no problem we cannot solve. What is small becomes big because of lack of unity,” Museveni emphasised.
