Who hasn’t heard about TikTok, Instagram, Twitter and Likee? Social media has pretty much taken over the world, so no real surprise there.
I don’t think most people would be surprised to hear that social media has taken over the world – who hasn’t heard of TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, or Likee?.
Well, to be fair, the latter might not be as popular as the first three, but you will get to know the newest TikTok rival soon enough.
Nowadays, almost everything we see, consume or create is typically tied in a way or another to any of the popular social platforms. The established process for online content is (and has been for years) to grow, as shown by many studies.
This tendency saw a dramatic increase once the pandemic started, creating a whole new wave of kids, teenagers and adults unified by cute animals, talented musicians and naturally funny people.
The most prominent and fastest-growing platform as of today is the world-renowned humour and music playground: TikTok. It’s been downloaded over two billion times and has roughly one billion active users.
On the other hand, there’s a similar alternative to what this platform offers: Likee. If you haven’t heard of it, it is probably because, although its releases were separated by less than a year, the latter one’s fanbase stands far from the first one, at around 150 million users.

So, let’s take a look at their interfaces, designs, content, influencers, and security, this is the TikTok vs Likee review as explained by Flash Uganda Media.
- In plain sight, both options offer a variety of services that highly resemble each other. Both have a “following” tab, as well as one dedicated to what you could be interested in. A neverending well of content in which everyone could fall. Can we blame them? One puppy video right after one kitten video? Who could resist, right?
- When it comes to design, TikTok opts for darker themes, compared to the lighter tones of Likee. Once more, both apps display and offer similar options: recording, editing, filters and their music library.
- The main content uploaded to the two of these apps is focused on music, dancing and pranks or humour in general. One perk of this global society is that each individual has a chance to become the next hit. On platforms such as TikTok or Likee, it’s all about being charming, original, talented and a tablespoon of luck.
- One of the most surprising things to appear along with the wave of huge social media accounts is the influence and numbers these people carry.
This isn’t good or bad per se, as it all depends on the use of said influence, but it sure opened a door that had been closed since humanoids started wandering this planet: making a living out of the content you create, from your home and under your rules.
Sounds good, but be wary: this is not as straightforward as it may seem. It’s important to keep in mind that there are millions of people out there trying desperately to make their way into the celebrity club.
How many times have you heard someone saying that (no matter what they’re talking about) “you should do it to have fun”? Keep that in mind if you’re looking to become the next Charli D’Amelio.
Don’t you know her? Well, keep reading to learn about the biggest celebrities on TikTok (2021):
- @charlidamelio – 124.4 million followers
- @khaby.lame – 111.4 million followers
- @addisonre – 84.3 million followers
- @bellapoarch – 81.4 million followers
- @zachking – 63.9 million followers
Although we have known social media for years and have quite gotten used to its massivity, it remains a shock to see individuals gather more followers than the whole population of some countries.
Next, to be able to compare the impact and size of each platform, the most popular celebrities on the Likee app:
- Anushka Sen – 18.6 million followers
- Emani Rawat – 5.53 million followers
- Megha Prasad – 4.53 million followers
- Tanya Sharma – 4.13 million followers
There’s a couple of conclusions we can draw from these data.
The first one could be that, in some way, Likee is the orient version of TikTok and vice versa. The following is that, although Likee’s influencers accomplish gigantic numbers, occidental influencers remain on top of the pyramid, by quite a lot.
This could be because the oriental public is interested in both groups of celebrities or influencers, whilst the occidental users tend to focus on the ones near them.
As we’ve seen so far, the differences are reasonably small and it all comes down to each one’s taste and preferences about the design, the interface or the influencers creating content on said platform. Or does it?
Lastly, security. Tiktok vs Likee has been quite a close combat so far, but in this last round is where one of them gets K.O.’d. By itself.
According to experts, TikTok doesn’t pose more of a risk than any other sharing social media, so (even if it’s not the perfect way to portray your app’s security) it’s relatively safe, and the parental filters or given options work decently well to keep children away from the content they shouldn’t consume.
Here is where it gets muddier. Is Likee safer?
Although so similar, there is something that you might want to keep in mind when choosing between one of these two options (either for you or your children, albeit it affects them specially).
Given the abundance of explicit and mature content, the lack of age verification process and knowing Likee’s in-app parental control isn’t as effective as TikTok’s, some experts have defined the platform as “A paedophile’s paradise.”
This was a dark turn for what was, up until this point of the article, an extremely stout rival for TikTok’s content monopoly.
Now, a wave of concerned parents is trying to warn other people and their children about the number of grown men trying to prey on children.
An issue as serious as this should not be treated lightly. The power the consumer holds is to avoid giving more downloads to this app until said problems are solved.
As for now, unless new and effective measures are included onto the platform to solve these BIG issues, TikTok (even though they serve the same purpose and niche) remains the safer option and comes ahead in the fight of the content.
