Former Everton and Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has made a positive start to his time in Italy.
The established striker Romelu Lukaku scored four goals in his very first match for a new club, Inter Milan.
The club’s record signing from Manchester United showed why he’s worth the price tag by providing a finishing master-class during an 8-0 thrashing of Serie D side Virtus Bergamo.
This was Romelu Lukaku’s first pre-season match after the striker failed to feature in United’s tour of Australia and Asia ahead of the move to Italy.
Previously before a £74m transfer from Manchester United, the striker was training with his old Belgium side, Anderlecht in a bid to remain match fit.
Wrapping up the 8-0 scoreline, Matias Vecino and Sebastiano Esposito added braces to Lukaku’s four goals to secure a comfortable result for Inter.
Although Inter were clearly up against far inferior opponents, four goals are something that can boost Lukaku’s confidence after his big-money transfer before the start of the 2019/2020 Serie A season.
Inter Milan kick off their campaign at home against Lecce on Monday, August 26, and Romelu Lukaku will hoping to capitalize on this confidence to build a perfect legacy for himself in Italy.
Previously the striker has played for clubs like Anderlecht, Chelsea and Manchester United – although many football analysts claimed his former employers made a mistake in letting go of his services, he didn’t appear to be a big miss in United’s opening premier league fixture.
Manchester United claimed a comfortable 4-0 win over league opponents, Chelsea – Marcus Rashford appeared to relish leading the line, scoring twice in the win.
Meanwhile James and Anthony Martial added the other two goals to cement the day’s win for the home side.
United who looked good without the former striker’s services had a perfect day to remember as the likes of young talents in Daniel James and Mason Greenwood also stepped up their game.
Ex-United manager Jose Mourinho, who was working as a pundit for Sky Sports backed Rashford to shine in Lukaku’s absence, saying: “He has to score more than 10 goals, especially without Romelu Lukaku.
“I believe this season he has a big opportunity to be a better player and score more goals.”
Romelu Lukaku will be aiming to better the 12 goals he scored in the Premier League for United last season in his first campaign in Serie A.
And with Inter Milan expected to challenge Juventus for this campaign’s title, a great task will be ahead of the new record signing in a bid to end the Old Lady’s remarkable record of winning eight Scudettos in a row.
