John Blaq
Who is John Blaq?

Flash Uganda Media looks at John Blaq’s biography, Age, music, songs, family, early life and education of John Kasadha.

John Blaq is a Ugandan songwriter, reggae, raga and hip-hop artiste who dominated the music scene in 2017 with his hit songs like Obubadi, Tukwatagane and many others. He is signed under Black Market Records.

If he wasn’t an artist, John Blaq says would be a dealer in general merchandise like cars, gadgets and other electrical appliances.

Early Life and Education

John Blaq (born John Kasadha) is Musoga from Eastern region of Uganda in Jinja district born 16 July 1996 to Mr Musa Waiswa Zodolo and Mrs Annet Nabirye.

He grew up with his aunt in Bweyogerere, a Kampala suburb. The aunt funded his academics because his biological parents were unable to pay the school fees.

John Kasadha attended to Lwanda and Hassan Tourabi Primary schools and then joined Bweyogerere SS for both O and A ‘Level.

With his aunt, John went through a lot of trial times because there were times when he used to sleep hungry.

He at times had no money for school fees but he did not give up instead was inspired and empowered to work hard on his music.

Music Career

John Blaq started music while in high school where they used to organize rap battles at school and he got the urge to take part. In the rap battles, he always emerged the front-runner so he discovered the talent.

However, being a rapper, John does not do hip-hop music because he learnt that the genre did not do well and earned little in Uganda.

“I understood what the market wanted and hip-hop was not doing well so it was difficult to earn money from it. Due to my versatility in dancehall and raga, I opted for the trend though most passionate about hip-hop which I do for my own pleasure,” said John Blaq.

He recorded his first song “More Fire with” with one of Uganda’s renowned producer called Andy Music in Buddies studio. The song became viral selling him out in Uganda and after he worked on his second hit Tukwatagane.

According to him, the reception from fans was so overwhelming because they enjoyed every song he released. His brand established in a short time and he was able to secure big endorsement deals.

He nonetheless, attaches the breakthrough to being so focused, patient and having surrounded himself with good people who guided and prevented him from making unnecessary mistakes and not forgetting praying to God.

He says Aya Baasi is his trademark because it’s like a trigger to start going, so he used it whenever he would be in the studio starting to record a song. He would just say it naturally but surprisingly people liked it. It’s now his signature slogan.

John Blaq locally picks his inspiration from the late Mowzey Radio (born Moses Nakintije Ssekibogo) because of his lyrical maturity and voice which were phenomenal. Late Mowzey stimulated his musical nerves pushing him into the industry.

Internationally, he looks up to Nigerian superstar Burna Boy specifically for his style.

Controversies

John Blaq accused some artistes of paying DJs not to play his music in clubs and other hangouts. He stressed out the point while on Capital FM.

“I have an artist who is fighting my music and he has been paying some DJs not to play my music,” John Blaq said.

Obubadi hitmaker was allegedly embroiled in USA Visa troubles after a whistleblower turned him in for declaring wrong intentions regarding his travel to the USA

He was turned in by a USA based promoter identified as Promoter Baker after he exposed double standards and took on another higher-paying gig despite being already booked.

John Blaq was booked and he asked for $1500 (shs5.5M), we processed the Visa and he was granted two years. After receiving the Visa he asked for an increment because someone else was paying him $2500,” said Promoter Baker.
