Total Africa Cup of Nations Group A: Egypt beat Uganda 2-0.
Egypt has claimed the top spot over wasteful Uganda after thrashing them 2-0 in the last game of group A at the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
In an agitating match, Egypt once again proved apt at taking the lead before shutting down their opponents.
Notably, Mohammad Salah fired a free kick past Denis Onyango to give his side the lead in the 36th minute of the game.
Ahmed Elmohamady as well latched on to a perfect pass and fired an excellent low shot inside the left post to round off the scoring for the hosts late in the first half.
Appropriately, Uganda who came into this game hoping to boast six games without a defeat had more shots towards the opposition’s goal and also got the better chances but on numerous occasions, they failed to convert.
Proving sturdy in defence, the Pharaoh’s who have not yet conceded a single goal in this year’s Total Africa Cup of Nations campaign has arguably been a threat in front of goal recording at least a goal in each of their three group games (5 goals).
This win now means that Egypt has qualified for the knockout stages as group A leaders with 9 points, 5 points ahead of second-placed Uganda on 4 points.
Meanwhile, Uganda will face the second placed team in group C for the knockout phase of the tournament.
